In technical papers it has been found desirable that certain details should be standardised. Symbols and abbreviations etc. are taken from B.S. 1991 Part I: 1954, "Letter symbols, signs and abbreviations" but this allows certain alternatives and in this note selection has been made to obtain complete standardisation within the Organization. Many reports are eventually published and forms are given which have been evolved to meet the requirements of most editors.
