The measurement of the speed of propagation of flame over fabrics is disoussed and some general relations between flame speed and the weight of the fabric per unit area are desoribed. Methods are outlined for the measurement of vertical flame speed with simple robust apparatus. A survey is described by which
it is hoped to examine the relation between the incidence and severity of burning accidents and the vertical flame speed of the materials involved.
