THE HEAT TRANSFER FROM BURNING FABRICS

Wraight, H.G., Webster, C.T. and Thomas, P.H., 1957. THE HEAT TRANSFER FROM BURNING FABRICS. Fire Research Notes 340

ABSTRACT

The rates of heat transfer from burning fabrics to a nearby surface have been measured by two methods for materials of different weights and composition. The maximum heat flux from the flames is about 0.7 cal cm-2sec-1 and the total dose increases with the weight of the the fabric, and is about one-third of the calorific value, but all practical fabrics are capable of causing severe burns.
