ABSTRACT
The minimum intensities required to ignite wood protected by the common paints in use in this country have been determined for spontaneous ignition, for ignition with a pilot flame near to the surface and for ignition with the pilot flame in contact with the surface. The majority of the treatments reduce the hazard of ignition considerably. This is especially true for surface ignition, where the minimum intensities for painted woods are at least twice those for untreated woods.
