FIRE DEATHS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 1970

Chandler, S.E., 1970. FIRE DEATHS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 1970. Fire Research Notes 825

ABSTRACT

A preliminary survey shows that 242 persons died in fires in the first quarter of 1970. Two hundred and nine of these were in England and Wales, 30 in Scotland and three in Northern Ireland. This figure is slightly higher than the preliminary estimate for the first quarter of 1969. The most serious incident was at a hospital in which five elderly men died. There were eleven deaths attributed to electric blankets in England and Wales, compared with three in the first quarters of each of the two previous years.
