ESTIMATES OF LOSSES CAUSED BY FIRE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND EIRE 1930-1954

Millar, D.W. and Firth, J.M., 1956. ESTIMATES OF LOSSES CAUSED BY FIRE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND EIRE 1930-1954. Fire Research Notes 254

ABSTRACT

An attempt has been made to allow for the effect of the changing value of money, on the estimates of direct fire damage published in "The Times". It has been shown that a great part of the increase both in the total direct fire damage in the United Kingdom and Eire, and that in high loss fires in the United Kingdom, in recent years, has been caused by rising prices. There is some evidence that the total direct fire damage in the United Kingdom and Eire measured at 1949 prices, is lower in the post-war period than before the war.
